A town Under Siege

Kobani was not always in ruins: The birthplace of the Rojava Revolution came under attack by the Islamic State in the summer of 2014. The defenders of the city, outnumbered, outgunned, and besieged on all fronts, were determined to put up a resistance. For four months the battle for the city raged on, at some points the defenders were short on food, water and ammunition, and yet they kept the resistance. Against all odds and expectations the city did not fall and the defenders of the city turned the tide and drove the Islamic State out of the city. The city was almost completely destroyed in the end, and the resistance still continued, now in lifting the siege and rebuilding their city; the struggle for survival was still in place. When I entered the city Islamic State was only 20 km away. The destroyed city was still under siege and the people was still continuing. People and young soldiers were fighting for their town.
